Iran has executed a former nuclear industry employee on charges of espionage
Mehdi Farid, a former employee of the Atomic Energy Organization, has been executed in Iran. He was convicted of spying for Israel.
This was reported by Euronews.
According to information on the website of the judicial media outlet Mizan, Farid, acting on instructions from Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, attempted to “compromise” the internal network of a secret defense organization and provided access to it to unauthorized individuals.
According to Mizan, the former employee of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization passed on information to the Israeli side regarding the organization’s structure, the locations of its buildings, security measures, and employee data.
It is reported that during the trial, Farid “confessed” to collaborating with the “Mossad.”
According to human rights organizations, Farid was arrested and taken to Evin Prison in the winter of 2022. Initially, his case was heard by the 26th Chamber of the Revolutionary Court, which sentenced him to 10 years in prison; however, the sentence was later commuted to the death penalty.
Meanwhile, the Iranian civil society organization Hengaw, citing a source, notes that Farid was a student in the Faculty of Information Technology. He refused to cooperate with individuals linked to Israel and voluntarily approached the security service of the Atomic Energy Agency, handing over the information and money he had received. Despite this, he was charged with “divulging information and collaborating with Israel.”
