A woman was executed in Iran for killing her rapist
In Iran, a death sentence was carried out against 23-year-old Marzieh Nieri, who had been convicted of murder. According to Iran Human Rights, the incident occurred in October 2021, when the 18-year-old woman defended herself with a kitchen knife against her husband’s intoxicated partner, who was attempting to rape her. The convicted woman’s husband was also killed during the struggle.
The court rejected her claims of self-defense and handed down the death sentence.
The convicted woman, who had previously been forced to marry at the age of 17 under pressure from her family, was executed on August 8 at Qazvin Central Prison. Since the beginning of 2026, she has become at least the 14th woman to be executed in the country.
