Islamabad plans to launch a waste collection system in rural areas — Dawn
In Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has issued a Turkish company a letter of acceptance for a proposal to launch a new cleaning and waste collection system. The first stage of the project is planned for implementation in the capital’s rural areas, where there is currently no proper garbage collection system. This was reported by Dawn.
The official launch of the project is expected on October 13 with the participation of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf, CDA Environment Member Abdullah Khurram Niazi, and representatives of the Turkish company, which the publication calls the Joint Venture of Atlas Pak Waste Management Company, discussed preparations for the start of work.
Transfer station in sector I-11
Under the plan, the company will collect waste in Islamabad’s rural areas and deliver it to a transfer station in sector I-11. From there, the garbage will be transported to the Losar landfill in Rawalpindi.
A CDA representative said that waste is to be sorted at the transfer station. The administration also plans to establish a waste recycling facility and use plastic to manufacture sewer manhole covers.

103 vehicles and more than 1,300 workers
According to a CDA official, 103 vehicles and more than 1,300 uniformed workers will operate in the rural areas. The colors of the staff uniforms and vehicles have already been determined.
The Turkish company won a four-year contract to serve urban and rural areas after submitting a bid of approximately 18 billion Pakistani rupees. In urban areas, the CDA will for now continue working with hired equipment and its own staff, while this area is also planned to be handed over to a contractor later.
According to the publication, due to the lack of a system, residents of rural areas dumped waste in open spaces and drainage channels. Officials explained that this is why the CDA decided to begin work in these areas first.
