Second day of nutrition conference begins in Islamabad
The second day of the two-day international conference Act For Nutrition: The Emergency We Can No Longer Ignore has begun at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad. The event is dedicated to the prolonged crisis of malnutrition and stunting in Pakistan.
Scale of the crisis
According to Dawn, on the first day of the conference, experts warned that stunting affects more than four in ten children under the age of five in Pakistan.

Experts estimate that malnutrition costs Pakistan nearly $17 billion annually. They noted that the problem is caused by a combination of factors, including poor-quality diets, inadequate healthcare, weak water supply and sanitation systems, poverty and other circumstances.

The conference is attended by policymakers, international development leaders, healthcare workers and nutrition specialists. The event aims to discuss the crisis and build momentum for urgent coordinated action across several sectors.
