One of the most wanted mafia members has been arrested in Italy

In Italy, law enforcement officials have arrested Roberto Mazzarella, who is linked to the Camorra mafia group. He was fourth on the Interior Ministry’s list of the most dangerous fugitives.

Rai News reports this.

The man was found on the Amalfi Coast in a luxurious villa, where he was hiding under a false name.

According to the investigation, Mazzarella had planned to spend Easter there with his wife and two children, who were with him at the time of his arrest.

The operation was carried out by the Carabinieri of the investigative unit of the Naples Provincial Command under the coordination of the local Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA). Special forces were also involved, including the "Cacciatori di Calabria," the Api unit, and a patrol boat from the Salerno Port Authority.

During the search, law enforcement officers seized three expensive watches, approximately 20,000 euros in cash, forged documents, mobile phones, as well as handwritten notes that may contain financial information.

As noted, Mazzarella is suspected of involvement in organizing and carrying out the murder of Antonio Maione, which occurred on December 15, 2000, in Naples. According to investigators, the crime was part of an inter-clan vendetta: the victim was allegedly killed because of family ties to a hitman who had previously killed Salvatore Mazzarella.

An arrest warrant for the suspect was issued on January 28, 2025, but he managed to evade capture at that time. He had been in hiding for over a year until he was apprehended in Vietri sul Mare.

The investigation into the case is ongoing.

We previously reported that a well-known mafia member was caught in Italy.

Dozens of Sicilian mafia members and their “white-collar” accomplices were sent to prison during a massive trial that revealed how the mafia fraudulently swindled millions of euros from the EU.

We also recall that Brazil extradited Rocco Morabito—a boss of the 'Ndrangheta mafia—

to Italy. One of the hundred most dangerous mafia members on the wanted list was detained in Italy. We are talking about Gaetano Angrisano, whom the police found while he was celebrating his two-year-old son’s birthday.
