In Israel, Ben-Gvir criticizes permission for visits to Nukhba prisoners
In Israel, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir criticized an order by the High Court of Justice allowing prisoners whom he called Nukhba terrorists to receive visits for the first time since October 7. According to him, this decision is a direct blow to the country’s security deterrence.
The Jerusalem Post reported on the minister’s statement on September 7. Ben-Gvir linked the court’s decision to his policy of tightening detention conditions for prisoners in security-related cases.
Statement on a decrease in the number of attacks
Ben-Gvir stated that the number of terrorist attacks had decreased by approximately 75%. He referred to data from Israel’s Shin Bet security service and expressed the view that reforming the detention conditions of prisoners whom he called terrorists had partly contributed to this.

The minister also stated that, in his opinion, the High Court of Justice is becoming a platform for appeals by Israel’s enemies. He mentioned Justice Amit’s remarks in a case concerning the entry of goods into Gaza.
Policy on prisoners and the death penalty
Ben-Gvir identified tightening detention conditions for individuals whom he calls terrorists involved in the October 7 attack, as well as advancing the death penalty for terrorism, as priorities of his work as national security minister.
As The Jerusalem Post notes, after the first passage of the law on the death penalty for terrorists in April, Ben-Gvir stated that the measure was intended to help prevent a repeat of an attack similar to the October 7 assault. In August, he also reported the installation in central Israel of a facility for carrying out death sentences by hanging in an already built wing for those sentenced to death.
