In Israel, man charged with setting bins on fire demands apology from Sara Netanyahu
In Israel, Eyal Giler, who is charged in a case involving the arson of garbage bins in Jerusalem, sent Sara Netanyahu a pre-litigation demand to retract her statements, apologize and pay him 100,000 shekels. As The Jerusalem Post reports, his lawyers said that if she refuses, they will seek at least 1 million shekels in a defamation lawsuit.
Sara Netanyahu’s statements
In an interview with Channel 14, Sara Netanyahu called the fires a “ring of fire” around their home. She said that members of her family could have suffocated and died, and that the alleged aim of those responsible for the fires was murder.
Netanyahu did not name Giler directly. However, his lawyers, Tali Ben-Simon and Yadin Dan Giladi, believe viewers could have linked those words specifically to him, as his name and photograph had previously been published in connection with the criminal case.

Prosecution’s version
According to the prosecution, Giler and three other defendants planned arson attacks at six locations near the prime minister’s private residence in Jerusalem’s Rehavia neighborhood during a protest on September 3, 2025, demanding the release of hostages. Ultimately, according to the prosecution, five garbage bins were set on fire. Prosecutors called the selected locations a “ring of fire.”
The prosecution claims that the fires damaged vegetation and other property, nearly destroyed a car, and created danger for residents of a neighboring building, who were evacuated. Giler is accused, among other things, of pouring flammable liquid into a recycling bin, adding fuel-soaked materials and setting them on fire. According to the prosecution, the fire damaged a stone wall and an awning.
The indictment includes, among other things, counts of arson, intentional property damage, damage to a vehicle and obstruction of justice. At the same time, Giler is not charged with attempted murder, and it is not alleged that he planned to kill Netanyahu or members of her family. The guilt of all defendants in the case has not yet been proven in court.
