UAE worshippers to be urged to conserve water during Friday prayers — The National
In the United Arab Emirates, worshippers at Friday prayers in mosques across the country will be urged to use water sparingly and teach children not to waste this resource. This was reported by The National.
A sermon on responsible water use
The sermon, titled “From water We made every living thing,” will emphasize that water must not be taken for granted. It will recall the hardships faced by previous generations, who had to travel long distances through the desert in search of water or look for it among rocks.
The sermon text describes every drop of water wasted without need as an abuse of a blessing and a failure to fulfill the responsibility entrusted to people by Allah. Worshippers will also be reminded of the Quranic instruction not to be wasteful.
The sermon describes water as the foundation of life, essential for drinking, agriculture, the growth of trees and crops, and greening the land. Gratitude for this resource, the text says, should be expressed not only in words but also through prudent use.

Families and water initiatives
Worshippers will be encouraged to make responsible water use part of family upbringing and to set an example for children. The sermon also refers to the moderate use of water by the Prophet Muhammad: he used about half a litre of water for ablution.
The second part of the address links the religious principle of avoiding wastefulness with the UAE’s efforts to address water scarcity. In particular, it will mention the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, created to raise awareness of water shortages, accelerate innovative solutions and promote sustainable water-resource management.
As part of this initiative, the Water Pioneers Programme operates to involve young UAE citizens in developing solutions to water-related challenges. The 2026 UN Water Conference, co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal, will take place on December 8–10 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
