Waymo plans to launch autonomous taxis in Singapore in 2028 — Channel NewsAsia
Waymo, owned by Alphabet, plans to launch a ride-hailing service using fully autonomous vehicles in Singapore in 2028. This will be the company’s first entry into the Southeast Asian market, Channel NewsAsia reports.
Cooperation with Singaporean authorities
Waymo announced a partnership with Singapore’s Ministry of Transport and the Land Transport Authority. The parties will prepare for the launch of a commercial electric-vehicle ride service that passengers will be able to book through the Waymo app.
According to the company, the first Waymo vehicles are expected to arrive in Singapore in the coming months. At the initial stage, the company will deploy a fleet of fully electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles while establishing local operations.

Preparing the autonomous system
During the preparatory stage next year, specially trained autonomous driving specialists will initially operate the vehicles manually. During this period, Waymo will adapt its Waymo Driver autonomous driving system to Singaporean roads and local conditions.
In particular, the technology will be configured to account for local road geometry and monsoon weather. Waymo intends to make fully autonomous rides available to the public in 2028, subject to regulatory approvals.
