According to unverified information, the racing driver pulled over in his Audi after a minor collision with another vehicle. An argument reportedly broke out after he asked for insurance details. According to the same information, Wolk tried to leave the scene when he was shot in the back.

The driver's career
Robert Wolk's career spanned nearly three decades and included karting, open-wheel racing, touring cars and other circuit-racing disciplines. He won the South African Junior GP Karting Championship in 1995 and 1997, secured several Formula Ford titles, and was also South African champion in Formula Volkswagen in 2013, Formula 1600 in 2015, GTC in 2021 and 2022, and touring car racing in 2024.
In May 2026, Wolk won the King of the Hill title at the Simola Hillclimb for the second time, and in June he won a South African Touring Cars race at the Aldo Scribante circuit. Motorsport South Africa called him a highly respected figure in motorsport. The Simola Hillclimb organizers said the loss of the driver would be deeply felt by South Africa's motorsport community.
Wolk continued to compete at the national level and was due to take part in races at Killarney this weekend.
