Ryanair to increase winter flight program from Riga by 6% — LSM English
Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair will increase its flight program from Riga, Latvia, by approximately 6% in the winter season. The airline will continue to base two aircraft in Riga, operate flights on 16 routes and increase flight frequency on ten of them.
Changes in the Baltic region
As LSM English reports, Riga is currently the only Baltic capital where Ryanair is increasing capacity during the winter period. In Lithuania and Estonia, the carrier plans to reduce capacity by 25%.
Ryanair Chief Commercial Officer Jason McGuinness said that after the COVID-19 pandemic, the Baltic countries became less competitive for airlines. According to him, new taxes and higher charges contributed to this, while many airports in other European countries are reducing charges, abolishing taxes and working with airlines to increase traffic volumes.

Expansion plan in Latvia
Ryanair proposes doubling its presence in Latvia over five years: increasing the number of aircraft based in the country from two to four, and annual passenger numbers to more than 3.5 million.
At the same time, the company noted that the implementation of this plan depends on the authorities' actions to reduce the costs of airport services and air traffic management.
