396 boxes of duty-free tobacco products seized in Nicosia — Cyprus Mail
In the Engomi area of Nicosia, Cyprus, police seized 396 boxes of duty-free cigarettes and tobacco heating products. The operation was conducted against the illegal storage and sale of tobacco products, Cyprus Mail reports, citing police.
Detention and seizure
Police detained a 40-year-old man suspected of transporting the products by car. During a search of the vehicle, officers found 301 boxes of tobacco heating products, 95 cartons of cigarettes, €2,400 in cash and two mobile phones.
According to police, the operation was carried out after receiving information about the alleged illegal storage, transportation and sale of duty-free tobacco products, as well as possible fraudulent VAT evasion.

Goods handed over to customs
The detainee was taken to the customs department in Nicosia, where the seized tobacco products and the vehicle were also transferred.
Customs officials issued the man with a notice for an out-of-court payment of €20,000 for storing tobacco products for which taxes had not been paid.
