The EU is to transfer 3.3 billion euros to Ukraine for missiles and drones
On Friday, the European Union is set to provide Ukraine with 3.3 billion euros. The funds are earmarked for the purchase of drones and missiles.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced this following a phone call with the President of Ukraine.
Von der Leyen announced that “the next day”—September 18—“the next 3.3 billion euros will be transferred to Ukraine for the purchase of missiles and drones.”
She noted that funding for Patriot systems was approved last week—from a loan intended to support Ukraine.
“But clearly, more is needed. That is why I announced that we are ready to use the remaining funds under the SAFE program to launch a new program for joint defense projects between Ukraine and the EU,” she noted, specifying that this refers in particular to the “Freya” anti-ballistic missile system.
“We discussed the reforms the Council needs to implement to unblock further funding and keep Ukraine on track toward the EU,” the European Commission President added.
Neither the President of the European Commission nor Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned the next steps in Ukraine’s accession negotiations in their statements.

On September 10, in Kyiv’s Svyatoshynsky District, a drone crashed in an open area in a forest near a shopping center. According to preliminary reports, there was no fire and no casualties.
In the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv, an enemy drone struck the roof of a four-story business center. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene to investigate the circumstances and address the aftermath of the incident.
