Thousands of ships are stranded in the Strait of Hormuz due to the escalating conflict — 7deniz
A major crisis in the Strait of Hormuz has blocked the passage of nearly 2,000 ships carrying more than 20,000 sailors.
This was reported by the publication 7deniz.
The situation is caused by the escalation of the war in the Middle East, which has effectively paralyzed one of the world’s most important maritime arteries.
Arsenio Dominguez, President of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), expressed deep concern about the condition of civilian fleets in the region.
He emphasized that prolonged stays in the conflict zone are critically depleting human and technical resources.
“Twenty thousand seafarers are stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, and approximately 2,000 vessels are unable to sail. The longer the vessels remain there, the longer the crew is subjected to stress and fatigue. In addition, supplies necessary for the vessels to continue operating are dwindling,” Arsenio Dominguez stated.
Currently, a critical humanitarian disaster is being averted only thanks to the support of countries in the region. They are supplying necessary goods to the blocked ships, but supplies are not unlimited.
The financial aspect of shipping has come under enormous pressure due to insurance companies’ reluctance to assume military risks.
Most financial institutions either demand exorbitant premiums or are terminating existing contracts with shipowners altogether.
As a reminder, about 20,000 sailors are stranded due to the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz.
Countries are also prepared to take action in the Strait of Hormuz, but only after a ceasefire.
