In Hungary, employees of a publication belonging to the media empire from the Orbán era are being laid off en masse — Telex
In Hungary, approximately half of the staff at the daily newspaper *Magyar Nemzet*—which is part of an informal media empire controlled by former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán—have been officially notified of their dismissal.
Large-scale staff cuts have led to the complete elimination of key departments and a change in the print edition’s format.
Among the many media professionals laid off were precisely those employees who had worked in the newsroom for a long time and were directly involved in the daily production of breaking news.
This news department is now being completely dissolved, and the six or seven journalists who worked there have already received official notices of the termination of their employment contracts.
However, the large-scale layoffs have affected absolutely every department in the editorial office.
This was reported by the Hungarian publication Telex, which analyzed the current crisis at the government-owned media holding company.
