Trump cast doubt on the transfer of Patriot technology to Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States does not yet plan to grant Ukraine a license to manufacture interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems. Moreover, he suggested that such a decision might not be made at all. One of the journalists reminded the U.S. president of his previous remarks that he was unsure about the advisability of granting Ukraine a license to manufacture Patriot missiles. He also asked what steps Washington expects Kyiv to take before making a final decision.
In response, Trump stated that the issue is still under discussion. “We haven’t agreed to that yet. We’re discussing it. But it’s very difficult to transfer such technology. And I don’t think it will ever happen, but they could turn it against you. That’s possible,” said the U.S. president.
According to him, Washington is very cautious about transferring modern military technologies to other countries. “The U.S. must be very cautious about transferring the secrets of these weapons,” Trump emphasized.
He also noted that such technologies cannot simply be copied, as they are the result of many years of development. “You can’t just take it and copy it,” he added.
During his remarks, Trump also drew attention to the pace of production of American weapons systems. “True, now we need to produce it a little faster. We’ve already given away almost all of it,” the White House chief stated.
At this point, the U.S. has not made a decision on granting Ukraine a license to manufacture interceptors for the Patriot system. According to Trump, discussions are ongoing, but he made it clear that due to concerns about the transfer of classified military technology, such a move may not receive Washington’s support. Trump made these remarks during a press conference while answering questions from journalists.
