Ukraine will conduct tests of a new version of the Ruta missile with a range of up to 2,000 km

Ukraine will conduct tests of a new version of the Ruta missile with a range of up to 2,000 km

Destinus, in collaboration with the German defense contractor Rheinmetall, is accelerating the development of the new Ruta Block 3 long-range missile, which will subsequently be tested in Ukraine.

The manufacturer’s press office officially announced that full-scale flight tests of this promising weapon will begin in 2027

The new project is designed to provide European countries with a reliable strike system in the context of modern high-intensity conflicts.

Ruta Block 3 will be based on the architecture of the first version of the missile, which has already progressed from combat testing to serial production.

Previous modifications have demonstrated high effectiveness, allowing for the utilization of partners’ industrial capabilities.

It is noted that Ruta Block 1 is being mass-produced in the Netherlands, and Destinus is expanding its production capacity to increase output.

The next generation of weapons is also directly linked to the Ukrainian defense sector. Meanwhile, Ruta Block 2 is currently undergoing flight tests in Ukraine.

The next modification, Block 3, “will expand the Ruta architecture to a new class of long-range systems,” while maintaining European control over development and licensing.

The company noted that the program is designed to transition long-range European missiles from limited stockpiles to sustainable industrial production.

Defense companies are placing the main emphasis on the ability to continuously supply weapons to allied armies. This will help overcome the shortage of precision-guided munitions that arises during prolonged conflicts.

“Europe is entering a new era of defense, where the decisive factor is no longer the mere existence of high-precision weapons, but the ability to produce, replenish, and develop them on an industrial scale during prolonged, high-intensity operations,” said Mykhailo Kokorich, CEO of Destinus.

According to him, the Ruta Block 3 “was designed with this reality in mind: a sovereign European architecture, distributed industrial production, and the ability to scale up quickly across allied nations.”

This model of cooperation is intended to protect component supply chains from external factors.
