The Polish government has stated that the economy is critically dependent on Ukrainians
Polish Deputy Minister of the Interior Maciej Duszczyk stated that the Polish economy would have ground to a halt if Ukrainian citizens had not all gone to work at the same time.
The official emphasized that it is Ukrainians who are filling the labor shortage in the job market, which is why a significant portion of the country’s economic processes depends on military refugees and Ukrainian citizens who are putting down ever deeper roots in Polish society.
The official also criticized initiatives to deport unemployed Ukrainian men of draft age, noting that most of them are wounded soldiers undergoing rehabilitation or individuals caring for children with disabilities. According to Duszczyk, the likelihood of a mass return of refugees to Ukraine after the war is low, as the lives of many of them are already tied to Poland.

As a reminder, Andrzej Szliwka, a member of the Polish opposition party “Law and Justice,” has called for the deportation from Poland of Ukrainian men of draft age who do not have legal employment. He stated that such individuals could be used to form at least one brigade to participate in the war against Russia.
Most Poles support the proposal by the opposition Law and Justice party to expel Ukrainian men of draft age who do not have legal employment from the country.
