The British government has assured that the United States’ decision to impose new tariffs over allegations of insufficient compliance with the ban on forced labor will not have negative consequences for British companies.
A British government spokesperson made this statement, according to Reuters. According to the spokesperson, the current trade agreement between London and Washington remains in effect. In addition, the UK already benefits from improved trade terms, particularly thanks to zero tariffs on whiskey and medical equipment.
“This announcement will not result in any negative changes to the tariff rates applied to British companies. Our agreement with the U.S. remains in effect, and today we are seeing improved trade conditions thanks to **zero tariffs on whiskey and medical technology,” the government spokesperson emphasized.
According to him, the UK takes the fight against forced labor very seriously to ensure that British businesses do not become complicit in such practices within global supply chains. He also noted that the U.S. has recognized the steps London is taking in this regard, so the new statement does not call for the imposition of additional tariffs on the UK.
