Vance stated that Iran is not prepared to abandon its nuclear weapons program

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance announced that negotiations with Iran had ended without results.

CNN reports this.

The main reason for the failure of diplomatic efforts was Tehran’s categorical refusal to provide clear guarantees regarding the cessation of nuclear weapons development.

The vice president made a statement on the status of the negotiations during a press conference in Pakistan following meetings in Islamabad.

According to Vance, the U.S. side demanded that Iran not only make temporary concessions but also adopt a long-term strategy to abandon its nuclear ambitions.

The lack of transparency in Iran’s nuclear program remains a key issue.

Washington seeks assurances that Tehran will not build the technical infrastructure that would allow it to produce a nuclear warhead in the near future.

“The fact is, we need to see a clear commitment that they will not seek to acquire nuclear weapons and will not seek the means to rapidly develop nuclear weapons,” emphasized J.D. Vance, outlining the White House’s position.

The U.S. Vice President also underscored the need for a fundamental change in the Iranian government’s course.

“The question is, do we see a fundamental willingness on the part of the Iranians not to develop nuclear weapons—not just now, not just in two years, but in the long term? We haven’t seen that yet, but we hope to see it.”

Despite the lack of announcements regarding future meetings, Vance suggested that Iran could still return to discussing the U.S. terms.

He called the current U.S. proposals “the final and best offer” that Tehran could receive at the diplomatic level.

As a reminder, negotiations between the U.S. and Iran began in Islamabad.

Trump also announced the “imminent opening” of the Strait of Hormuz.

As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump is demanding that European allies present concrete plans within a few days to ensure the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Recall that U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he had agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, during which the parties plan to finalize a definitive agreement.

Iran has agreed to open the Strait of Hormuz to shipping for two weeks—for the duration of the ceasefire with the U.S. This agreement is part of broader negotiations on de-escalation in the region.

According to anonymous sources, Chinese officials held talks with Iranian representatives to encourage Tehran to cooperate and facilitate a ceasefire with the United States.
