VeryDarkMan apologizes to Nigeria’s security agencies
Nigerian social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, apologized to the country’s security and law enforcement agencies for remarks made at the 66th annual conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. In a video published on Facebook, he said his words had been unfair to officers who risk their lives to protect citizens.
Controversial remarks
During a panel discussion at the conference, Otse called the military, police, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Nigeria Customs Service “unknown gunmen.” He also claimed that police officers at checkpoints allegedly pass information about travelers to kidnappers and terrorists.
The police responded by inviting the activist to provide evidence for these claims. As Premium Times Nigeria reports, Otse said he did not intend to accuse all members of the security forces of crimes, but acknowledged that his remarks could have been perceived as a generalization.

Apology to the military
The activist separately apologized to Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff and the leadership of other security agencies. He explained that he wanted to draw attention to what he alleged was corruption, information leaks, and sabotage by individual security personnel, rather than accuse all military personnel and law enforcement officers.
Otse said his earlier words could have offended the families of fallen officers and demotivated soldiers fighting the Boko Haram group. He urged security personnel who conscientiously perform their duties not to take his remarks as a devaluation of their work. At the same time, the activist repeated his accusations against security agency representatives whom he considers involved in sabotage, supplying weapons, and passing information to terrorists.
