An explosion at the Port of Rotterdam claimed one life

An explosion occurred at the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, killing one person and injuring several others.

The incident occurred around 12:00 p.m. local time on Moselweg Street, on the premises of Gunvor Energy. Emergency services and a medical helicopter arrived at the scene.

According to preliminary reports, the explosion may have occurred while pipelines were being disconnected as part of repair work. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.

The injured were taken to the hospital; there is no information yet on their condition.

Meanwhile, a power outage had previously occurred in the same area. As a result, operations at the large ExxonMobil refinery were completely halted. Port authorities stated that the power outage and the explosion are not related.
