Video: The French thanked Ukrainian firefighters who are helping to fight the blaze
In the Gironde department of France, which has been plagued by massive wildfires for two weeks now, local residents are warmly welcoming Ukrainian rescue workers. The Ukrainian Embassy in France has shared footage showing the French people expressing their gratitude to the firefighters for their help in battling the wildfires.
The video was posted on the social media pages of the Ukrainian Embassy in France and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian diplomatic mission noted that 70 Ukrainian firefighters, along with 15 pieces of equipment, arrived to assist French firefighters in the southwestern department of Gironde.
In the video, people can be seen gesturing to greet the Ukrainian firefighters from the roadside, holding up signs that read “Thank you,” and approaching them to say hello.
“Ukraine will never forget France’s unwavering support since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, and today stands shoulder to shoulder with the French people,” the embassy stated.
In France, 1,500 people gathered for an illegal rave despite the wildfires.
As a reminder, French passengers who purchased train tickets to the region around Bordeaux will be able to exchange or refund them free of charge. This decision was made due to the large-scale wildfires that have complicated the situation in the area.
Ukraine has sent a combined detachment of State Emergency Service (SES) rescuers to France to assist in fighting the large-scale wildfires that have engulfed certain regions of the country. Ukrainian specialists will assist French services in extinguishing the fires and conducting rescue operations.
