Video: Crete Has Been Ablaze for Two Days Due to Massive Wildfires
In Greece, firefighters have been trying for the second day in a row to bring massive wildfires on the island of Crete under control. Due to the rapid spread of the fire the day before, local residents and tourists were evacuated from dangerous areas.
On Thursday, more than 200 firefighters, supported by dozens of fire trucks and firefighting aircraft, battled two wildfire hotspots on the island of Crete, where crops and olive groves were destroyed, and warehouses and several homes were damaged.
Wildfire evacuations are underway on the Greek Aegean island of Paros, where a massive forest fire has been burning across the island overnight and into Wednesday morning.

“Unfortunately, there has been no improvement, and the latest information indicates that the wind will pick up later today,” said Yorgos Tsapakos, deputy head of civil protection for the Crete region, on SKAI TV.
On Wednesday, three Greek firefighters died while battling fires amid strong winds in Crete and on the mainland, and two others sustained minor injuries.
