Video: Spanish Prime Minister Arrives in Ceuta Amid Migration Crisis
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez arrived in Ceuta on July 31, a Spanish enclave in North Africa that has recently been at the center of a major migration crisis due to the mass illegal entry of migrants from Morocco.
The Spanish prime minister landed at the Ceuta helipad at around 11:40 a.m. local time.
He was accompanied by Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska.
About 40 protesters gathered near the government delegation’s arrival point, shouting offensive slogans directed at Pedro Sánchez and the interior minister.
The protesters accused the government of:
- weakening border security;
- responding ineffectively to the migration crisis;
- “destroying the hotel industry”;
- “selling out Spain.”
Insulting and homophobic remarks were also directed at the Minister of the Interior.
According to the publication, clashes broke out between some protesters and National Police officers upon the prime minister’s arrival.

Law enforcement officers ensured the safety of the government delegation during the visit.
Upon arrival, Pedro Sánchez headed to the Tarajal border crossing, where he plans to meet with representatives of the security forces responsible for guarding the state border.

The prime minister will also hold a coordination meeting with local authorities, representatives of immigration services, and law enforcement agencies to discuss further steps to resolve the situation in Ceuta.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the European Union will provide Spain with additional support in response to the migration crisis in the enclave of Ceuta, where tens of thousands of migrants have illegally entered from Morocco.
Earlier, the Spanish city of Ceuta declared a state of emergency due to the influx of migrants.
As a reminder, on Thursday, July 30, three migrants died while attempting to illegally cross the English Channel in a small boat near the French port of Dunkirk. This was reported by the local administration responsible for the English Channel and North Sea region.
For the first time since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, Germany has deported an Afghan citizen with no criminal record. He was among 31 Afghans who were returned to their homeland on July 28.
