Video: An explosion was heard in Damascus near the hotel where Macron was staying
Explosions were heard in the center of the Syrian capital near the hotel where the French government delegation, led by President Emmanuel Macron, is staying.
According to Syrian media, Macron’s motorcade passed the site 15 minutes before the explosions. No further information is available at this time.
French President Emmanuel Macron visited Syria, becoming the first head of state from the European Union to visit Damascus since the change of power in the country. In late 2024, rebel forces led by current Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa ousted Bashar al-Assad’s regime from power.

This is also the first trip by a French president to Syria since 2009. The last time a French leader visited the country was during the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy.
During his stay in Damascus, Macron plans to hold talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. According to the Syrian president’s office, the two sides intend to discuss the development of bilateral relations, the regional security situation, and other issues of mutual interest.
