Video: Tokayev Suddenly Calls on Putin to Stop the War in Ukraine
During a face-to-face meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed suspending hostilities in Ukraine and returning to the negotiation process based on the 2022 Istanbul agreements.
Tokayev presented his proposal as a personal opinion and in the form of advice to a war criminal.
According to the Kazakh president, since he is allegedly being approached as a mediator, he feels it necessary to propose a concrete option for ending the war.
“Since I am being approached, perhaps it is already time to freeze this conflict and return to the Istanbul Formula 2.0, since significant results were achieved there. Then, under the guarantee of major powers, including Russia, we can move forward toward the long-awaited peace,” Tokayev said.
However, the Kazakh president also made other statements that are fully in line with Moscow’s rhetoric.
He called Ukrainians and Russians “brotherly peoples” and expressed regret over the deaths of “young people” on both sides. In addition, Tokayev suggested that the war allegedly plays into the hands of unnamed “enemies.”
As a reminder, Kazakhstan’s Constitutional Court ruled that Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s presidential terms would be reset to zero following the entry into force of the country’s new Constitution.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that Kazakhstan is the successor to the Golden Horde and called for studying its political and economic model.
