Video: A dolphin was spotted in Venice's Grand Canal near the Rialto Bridge

On August 13, a dolphin was filmed in the waters off Venice, swimming right in the center of the Grand Canal near the famous Rialto Bridge. The mayor of Venice, Simone Venturini, posted a video of the animal on social media.

It is not yet known whether this is the same dolphin that has been in the waters near Venice for some time. Venturini and most Venetians call it Nane, while researchers and the media refer to it as Mimmo.

The mayor urged boat operators to exercise the utmost caution, as footage shows the dolphin swimming among gondolas, water taxis, and motorboats near the Rialto Bridge—one of the busiest sections of the Grand Canal.

Venice’s newly elected mayor, Simone Venturini, plans to sharply increase the entry fee for day-trippers to 50 euros to limit the excessive flow of visitors on peak days.

Venice had previously begun charging fees for day-trippers.

Starting May 1, 2025, Thailand has introduced a special digital form for foreign visitors. It must be completed before departing for a vacation in the country.
