Two young men from Ukraine drowned in the Netherlands

On August 12, in the Netherlands, two Ukrainian teenagers, aged 15 and 20, drowned in Lake Zandenplaats in the town of Nunspeet. The boys were pulled from the water and taken to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save them. Police are preliminarily treating the tragedy as an accident.

 

The tragedy occurred on August 12 at Lake Zandenplaats in Nunspeet. The two young men went into the water to swim, but after a while, witnesses noticed that they had disappeared beneath the surface. People saw that the swimmers were not returning to the surface and alerted emergency services.

Rescuers were immediately dispatched to the scene. Divers and rescue boat crews joined the search. Ambulances and helicopters were also on the scene. Rescuers managed to find both teenagers and pull them from the water. They were taken to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save their lives. They were 15 and 20 years old.

The boys were living in the Netherlands with a foster family

According to the Dutch news outlet RTL Nieuws, both victims were citizens of Ukraine. They had been living in Nunspeet with their foster family for several years. “They were Ukrainians and had been living with their foster family in Nunspeet for several years,” the report states.
