A 43-year-old resident of occupied Melitopol was detained in Rostov-on-Don on suspicion of involvement in a massive fire that destroyed more than 20 cars. According to investigators, the fire started in his van, which contained containers filled with gasoline.

According to the Russian police, after the fire broke out at a gas station, the man drove the burning van into a residential courtyard, where the fire spread to parked cars. A transformer substation and a Wildberries pickup point were also damaged.

The suspect stated that he had come from Melitopol to purchase gasoline for resale. According to him, one of the containers caught fire while he was refueling, and his attempts to extinguish the fire and drive the vehicle away failed to stop the fire from spreading.

In Russia, criminal proceedings have been opened against the man on charges of intentional destruction or damage to property.
