Nigerian military claims elimination of more than 18 terrorists in Borno State
The Nigerian military said it eliminated more than 18 terrorists and destroyed logistics facilities during an air operation in the Tumbunma-Baba area of Borno State. The operation was carried out by the air component of Operation Hadin Kai in coordination with the ground forces of Sector 1 of the operational task force.
This was reported by Premium Times Nigeria, citing the task force spokesperson, Captain Mohammed Goni. According to him, the operation was conducted early Friday morning in Tumbunma-Baba, located in the Tumbuns area.
Intelligence and airstrike
According to Goni, intelligence gathered over several weeks indicated the presence of terrorists in the area, including high-ranking individuals. The military said the island terrain was used as a meeting place and logistics base.
The operation command began surveillance on September 9 and confirmed the intelligence using intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets. According to the military, several terrorist structures and logistics facilities were identified in the area.

After identifying the targets, the air force used precision-guided munitions. Ground units, according to the spokesperson, occupied likely withdrawal routes to prevent the terrorists from escaping and engage them in combat.
Statement on the operation's results
According to the Nigerian military's assessment, the strikes destroyed the identified structures and eliminated more than 18 terrorists. The military also said the operation disrupted the group's logistics and weakened its ability to use the area as a base for assembly and supply.
After the operation, the military assessed the completion of its tasks at approximately 85%. Goni said the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-based actions, timely information verification, and coordination between air and ground forces.
