NATO fighter jets shot down a drone in Latvian airspace
On the morning of August 14, an unidentified drone violated Latvian airspace. NATO fighter jets were scrambled to intercept it and subsequently shot down the drone.
At approximately 4:09 a.m., the country’s armed forces warned Latvians that an air threat had been declared in the municipalities of Augšdaugava, Preili, Rēzekne, and Balvi.
“We are reporting that there is an air threat in Latvian airspace. Immediately take shelter indoors and follow the ‘two-wall rule.’ Stay tuned for official announcements,” the post read.
About half an hour later, the Latvian Armed Forces announced that the threat had been eliminated. The hostile drone was shot down by NATO aircraft.
“We would like to inform you that the threat in the airspace has been neutralized. Allied fighter jets successfully shot down the unmanned aerial vehicle that entered our airspace,” the military stated, adding that further information would be posted on their social media accounts.
As a reminder, the Russians used a Shahed drone to deliberately strike a passenger train in the Odesa region, resulting in fatalities.
The State Emergency Service and the Odesa Regional Military Administration released photos of the locomotive damaged by the Russian attack. The images show the condition of the train following the strike.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian forces struck a passenger train in the Odesa region. According to him, there were 340 passengers on board at the time of the attack, and the train engineer and his assistant were killed.
