Cornell graduate sues seven students over alleged sexual assault — Korea Herald

In New York, United States, a Cornell University graduate has filed a civil lawsuit against seven current and former students of the institution, accusing them of group sexual assault. According to Korea Herald, a Korean student is among the defendants.

Circumstances of the lawsuit

According to the student publication The Cornell Daily Sun, the lawsuit was filed on September 14. The plaintiff alleges that in October 2024, members of the university chapter of the Chi Phi fraternity forced her to take drugs and then sexually assaulted her at the fraternity house.

The lawsuit also states that some of the men allegedly continued the abuse despite knowing that the woman could not communicate clearly due to the effects of alcohol and drugs. She reported the incident to Cornell University police approximately three weeks later.

Actions by the university and prosecutor's office

Cornell University temporarily suspended the Chi Phi chapter and suspended the students involved in the case pending an internal investigation and disciplinary proceedings. Some students were later expelled or suspended from their studies.

No criminal charges were filed in the case. The Tompkins County District Attorney's Office told CBS New York that, after reviewing the police investigation materials, it found insufficient evidence for criminal prosecution.
