Senator Aimal Wali Khan calls attack in Pakistan a state failure — Dawn

Awami National Party president Senator Aimal Wali Khan condemned a suicide attack on the Aman Mela checkpoint in the Darazinda area of Pakistan’s Dera Ismail Khan district. The politician called the incident a state failure and urged the federal and provincial governments to take greater responsibility for security, Dawn reports.

Criticism of the authorities’ response

In a statement, Khan said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is going through one of the darkest periods in its history. He claims that the Pashtun population is being subjected to systematic genocide, while prolonged violence has left the province engulfed in terrorism, with the state, he said, remaining a silent spectator.

The senator also condemned an attack on an ambulance that was reportedly transporting the body of one of those killed in the blast. He called it an inhumane act.

Call to ensure security

Khan questioned the government’s response to the deteriorating security situation. According to him, placing responsibility on “Fitna al-Khawarij” and “Fitna al-Hindustan” does not absolve the state of its duties.

The politician said that the federal and provincial authorities have become disconnected from the residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and are more focused on their own interests than on the region’s security. He called on the governments to stop blaming each other, take responsibility for maintaining peace and protecting citizens, and expressed condolences to the families of the dead and wishes for the swift recovery of the wounded.
