The High Court of England and Wales has lifted the global asset freeze on VTB Bank assets belonging to the Kuanishev family
The High Court of England and Wales has lifted the worldwide freezing order against the family of Timur Kuanishev and Alfiya Askar Abulkhair (Kuanisheva), which had been imposed following a lawsuit filed by VTB Bank. The reason was that the bank failed to provide the court-required security of 500,000 pounds sterling to cover potential damages to the defendants.
In July 2024, Kuanishev and his partners acquired a 25% stake in the parent company of “Pechoranneftegaz.” The remaining shares were subsequently acquired. The transaction was secured by two guarantee sureties.
According to representatives of VTB Bank, in April 2025, “PechoraNeftegaz” defaulted on payments under the loan agreement. While attempting to resolve the situation, the bank claimed, it was provided with false information and forged documents.
In December 2025, VTB Bank secured a freeze on the Kuanishevs’ assets. The bank sought to recover 7.19 billion rubles from the defendants, which amounts to over 41.6 billion tenge.
Among Timur Kuanishev’s largest assets mentioned in the case files were stakes in Andoro Trading Corp and PMG Holding GmbH, as well as real estate in Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom.
