Vitalik Buterin responds to Alexander Dugin on freedom of languages and social networks

Vitalik Buterin, the founder of the Ethereum cryptocurrency, reacted to the call from Russian worldview ideologue Alexander Dugin to abolish the European Union, emphasizing EU support for local cultures and the difficulties of freedom in Russia. He pointed out that more than 20 languages thrive in the EU, whereas in Russia, one must use a VPN and pretend to be European to freely access Twitter, which is blocked there.

Buterin highlighted that the European Union fosters cultural diversity and freedom of speech, while in Russia, the authorities impose different conditions with restricted access to social networks and censorship. This contrast underscores opposing approaches to the information space and cultural policies in the two regions.

This discussion exemplifies broader conflicts between Western and Russian worldviews related not only to politics but also to freedom of expression and the preservation of cultural diversity, which may be significant for future geopolitical developments.
