The eruption of Etna has caused further disruptions at Sicilian airports
At Catania Airport on the Italian island of Sicily, flight disruptions have continued for the third day in a row due to the active eruption of Mount Etna.
Due to a cloud of volcanic ash, the company that operates the airports in Catania and Comiso has announced new restrictions on air traffic.
On August 12, Catania Airport will be unable to receive or dispatch flights until approximately 6:00 p.m.
The restrictions are related to Etna’s activity and the spread of volcanic ash, which poses a danger to aviation.
Operations at Comiso Airport have been suspended until 10:00 a.m. due to an ash cloud formed as a result of the volcanic eruption.
Passengers are advised to check the current status of their flights in advance before traveling to the airport.
Thus, Etna’s active eruption has been affecting air traffic in Sicily for the third consecutive day, causing flight cancellations and rescheduling.

The decision was made by the airport operator, SAC, due to the active eruption of Mount Etna and the release of an ash cloud into the atmosphere.
A cloud of volcanic ash from Mount Etna, one of Europe’s most active volcanoes, reached Malta on Tuesday, August 11. As a result, in the midst of the tourist season, airlines canceled at least 19 flights, and several others were delayed. Passengers are advised to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport.
