Authorities in Trinidad and Tobago have detained a Ukrainian plane carrying explosives

At P’yarco International Airport, law enforcement officers and customs officials detained a Ukrainian An-12 cargo plane, on board which they discovered improperly declared explosives during an inspection. The aircraft was operating flight CVK-7078 and was headed to Libya, where the supply of weapons and military materials is subject to strict international controls due to ongoing instability in the region.

Local aviation security authorities have launched an official investigation to determine the origin of the dangerous cargo, the legality of its transport, and the final recipient.

There is currently no official information regarding the detention of crew members or the filing of charges against specific individuals, and the country’s authorities have not yet disclosed details about the exact quantity and type of substances found. The aircraft belongs to a Ukrainian cargo airline operator, but any details regarding the clients who ordered this shipment remain off-limits to journalists. This high-profile incident occurred against the backdrop of the overall tense geopolitical situation in the world following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which is forcing international security services to treat the movement of potentially dangerous cargo with particular scrutiny.

Ukraine may have deployed its military personnel to Libya to carry out attacks on Russian ships in the Mediterranean Sea.

Russian General Andrei Averyanov was aboard a tanker of the so-called “shadow fleet,” which was attacked by Ukrainian drones in the Mediterranean Sea in December 2025.
