At least 38 Yemeni government soldiers were killed in Houthi attacks
At least 38 soldiers from the forces of Yemen’s internationally recognized government were killed in rocket and drone attacks carried out by the Iran-backed Houthis. Another 29 soldiers were wounded, two medical sources told AFP.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sari said the group had used ballistic missiles and drones against government positions. According to him, the attacks were in response to an alleged buildup of military forces supported by neighboring Saudi Arabia.
According to a military official speaking on condition of anonymity, a military camp in the Al-Ruwaik area of the central province of Marib was struck, as were camps in the Al-Abr and Al-Wadiya areas of Hadramaut province near the border with Saudi Arabia. Another military source reported that one of the missiles struck soldiers during a morning roll call at the camp in Marib. According to this source, at least 45 people were killed or wounded.

Sari named Al-Ruwaiq, Al-Tania, and Al-Abr among the areas affected by the strikes and stated that the Houthis are prepared to counter any escalation. The Ministry of Defense of Yemen’s internationally recognized government stated that the armed forces would respond to the missile and drone attacks at the appropriate time and place.
A military official called these attacks the deadliest between the two sides since 2022. Last month, according to two medical officials, the Houthis killed 16 soldiers during an attack on government-aligned forces south of the port city of Hodeidah.
The Houthis have been fighting the Yemeni government since 2014. They control the capital, Sana’a, and much of the densely populated north of the country, while the government holds most of the south. Fighting has largely ceased following a UN-brokered ceasefire reached in 2022, although that ceasefire has since expired.
