On Saturday, a shipment of 20 metric tons of fresh Gala apples was sent from Weining County in China’s Guizhou Province to Vietnam. The shipment is being transported in compliance with cold chain requirements and, according to ECNS, is expected to reach the border within 24 hours.

Since early August, more than 200 metric tons of apples have already been shipped from Weining to Vietnam and Thailand. Exporters have also received advance orders for 2,000 metric tons of produce even before the peak of the harvest.

Apples in Weinin are grown at an average altitude of 2,200 meters above sea level. The region enjoys over 1,800 hours of sunshine per year. According to the publication, local apples are characterized by high sugar content, vibrant color, and a crisp texture, and are well-suited for long-distance transport.

Modern cold storage technologies allow the fruit to be kept fresh for up to 10 months. Weining accounts for over 95% of Guizhou Province’s total fruit exports. Local producers also plan to enter the markets of other Southeast Asian countries, including Malaysia and Indonesia.
