Following a court ruling, Trump's name will be removed from the facade of the Kennedy Center
The leadership of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington has ordered that U.S. President Donald Trump’s name be removed from the institution’s title and all official materials. This decision was made following a federal court ruling that required the institution to change the use of Trump’s name in its branding and accompanying documentation.
According to a memo, staff members were instructed to immediately update email signatures, letterheads, and other documents, using only the names “John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts” or “Kennedy Center.” All other changes, including updates to signage, brochures, and the website, must be completed by June 12.
Federal Judge Casey Cooper ruled that the center’s board had no legal authority to add Trump’s name to the institution’s official title. The ruling states that Congress designated the center’s name in honor of President John F. Kennedy, and only the legislature can change it.
The Kennedy Center stated that it is complying with the court’s decision while considering further legal steps.
Earlier, after returning to the White House for a second term, Trump reshuffled the cultural institution’s board of directors, appointing his supporters. Following this, the center began using the names “Trump-Kennedy Center” and “Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.”
Following the court ruling, Trump stated that he was prepared to transfer control of the institution to Congress. According to him, he does not intend to continue participating in the project if he does not have sufficient freedom to implement his own decisions.
The court also ordered the center’s management to remove all signs and references to Trump’s name from the facility’s premises and its official resources.
