Body possibly belonging to missing woman found on Jeju
A body that may belong to 37-year-old Chang Mi-ran, who went missing in May, was found in a forest on South Korea’s Jeju Island. This was reported by the Korea Herald, citing the Jeju Provincial Police Agency.
Body found near accommodation
The body was discovered at 10:46 a.m. on Monday in a wooded area about one kilometer from the accommodation where Chang Mi-ran had stayed before her disappearance. Police are currently establishing the identity of the deceased and plan to conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
A police representative said that, based on the condition of the remains, no immediate signs of third-party involvement were found.

Review of police officer’s actions
Chang Mi-ran was last seen on May 12 as she was leaving the accommodation. A missing-person report was filed three days later.
The case was intensified after police determined that one officer had prematurely closed the initial case. According to the publication, he may not have ensured the woman’s safety, although he told her friends and relatives that he had spoken with her by phone.
The officer was arrested on Saturday, and an application for his formal arrest was filed on Monday. He is suspected of failing to perform official duties, falsifying official electronic records, and obstructing the performance of official duties through deception. During intensified searches launched late last week, the bodies of at least two other missing people were also found.
