Zelenskyy has ordered the strengthening of air defense near Belarus

Ukraine has decided to strengthen its air defense system in the northern sector due to growing threats near the border with Belarus. The relevant measures are already being developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense and the government. The primary focus is on responding quickly to requests from border communities.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated the need to further strengthen air defense in the northern sector, where the Ukrainian border meets Belarus, and emphasized that this issue is already being addressed by the Ministry of Defense and government agencies.

According to the head of state, a significant number of requests regarding increased security are coming from border communities, and the state must respond to these requests not merely as a formality, but as quickly and substantively as possible, taking into account the actual situation on the ground. “There is a need to strengthen air defense in the north, and such decisions are already being worked out with the Ministry of Defense and the government,” Zelenskyy said in his address.

The President emphasized that the reinforcement primarily concerns the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction, where defense measures must be brought into line with current security risks, as well as the needs of local residents and communities.

This involves the redistribution of additional equipment and resources which, according to Zelenskyy, the state already has at its disposal but requires more precise and rapid deployment to strengthen air defense.

Separately, the head of state emphasized that funding for defense measures in this region is fully provided for, and the relevant services must act in a coordinated manner, without delays or bureaucratic obstacles. “We have the capabilities to strengthen our defenses, and we expect these decisions to be implemented quickly,” the president noted, emphasizing that the government is also obligated to ensure support for all necessary defense initiatives.

Thus, Ukraine continues to strengthen its security system in the northern direction, focusing on protecting the civilian population and strategically important regions that are under constant scrutiny due to their proximity to the border with Belarus.

Alexander Lukashenko stated that he is allegedly ready to visit Ukraine and discuss relations with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In Kyiv, the response to such statements was as restrained and firm as possible, with officials reminding him of Belarus’s role in the war.
