Zelenskyy and Babiš will meet in Yerevan without traveling to Kyiv
Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš will hold a brief meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the first time since taking office. The meeting will take place not in Kyiv, but in Yerevan on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit. At the same time, the Czech prime minister explicitly stated that he does not plan to travel to Ukraine. Babiš made this announcement to the iDnes.cz news portal.
On Sunday, May 3, the first in-person meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš will take place in Armenia. The talks will take the form of a brief bilateral conversation during the international summit in Yerevan, where leaders of European countries will gather.
Babiš confirmed that, in addition to Zelenskyy, he has other brief meetings scheduled with European leaders. Among them are British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of Serbia, and the President of Moldova. According to him, such a diplomatic program is a standard part of the summit, where leaders take advantage of the opportunity for quick bilateral contacts. “I will also hold brief bilateral meetings with British Prime Minister Starmer, the Prime Minister of Serbia, and the President of Moldova. For the first time, I will also hold talks with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. It is important that we meet,” Babiš said.
Despite this meeting, the Czech prime minister separately emphasized that he does not plan to visit Ukraine. He explicitly stated that a trip to Kyiv is not currently on his schedule. “No, I will not go to Kyiv,” he noted.
At the same time, Babiš acknowledged that another meeting with Zelenskyy could take place in the future—at a conference in Poland that may be dedicated to Ukraine’s recovery.
Russia is preparing coordinated actions near Ukrainian embassies in various countries, disguising them as “commemorations of the victims of May 2 in Odesa.” Ukrainian analysts say this is part of an annual propaganda campaign, which is being intensified and expanded this time.
