President Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained why European countries must be present at the negotiating table to end the war. According to him, representatives of European states—at the intelligence and diplomatic levelshave been maintaining contact with Russia for quite some time.

Europe Has Its Own Channels of Communication with Russia

The president said that European partners independently maintain contact with the Russians at the level of intelligence agencies and diplomatic missions. According to him, this is happening in parallel with the contacts being maintained by the American side.

“Europeans at the intelligence and diplomatic levels have contacts with the Russians—it’s not just the Americans who do. Europe is very important at the negotiating table,” Zelenskyy said.

Why Europe Is Important for the Negotiations

The head of state explained that Europe’s role for Ukraine is not limited to financial or military support. According to him, it is primarily a matter of security.

“We understand that Europe is not just about aid, not just a wallet, not just weapons. It’s really about security. It’s important for Europe to be part of the negotiation process because they are thinking about security,” Zelenskyy added.

President Zelenskyy made these remarks in comments to journalists, according to RBC-Ukraine.
