Zelenskyy met with Meloni on the sidelines of the NATO summit
On the morning of July 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The talks took place on the sidelines of the NATO summit, which is being held in Ankara, the capital of Turkey.
The parties discussed support for Ukraine and the path toward achieving a just and lasting peace.
Following the meeting, the Italian government reported that Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s unwavering support for Ukraine.
“During the meeting, Italy’s firm commitment to Ukraine and the path toward a just and lasting peace was reaffirmed,” the statement said.
In addition, the Italian prime minister assured that assistance to the Ukrainian people would continue. In particular, Italy will continue to support the strengthening of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which has suffered significant damage as a result of Russian attacks.
This was reported by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
As a reminder, Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated that he spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a leaders’ dinner on the eve of the NATO summit in Ankara.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s initial remarks at the NATO summit in Ankara caused concern among allies and forced them to reassess their expectations for the meeting.
