Earthquakes in Venezuela have claimed the lives of more than 6,000 people

The death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 6,438.

The official death toll from the earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 6,438 after officials updated their casualty reports.

Venezuelan Parliament Speaker Jorge Rodríguez confirmed the rise in the death toll, as search teams continue to clear rubble nearly two months after two earthquakes devastated coastal infrastructure and forced thousands of families to relocate.

Rodríguez announced 137 additional confirmed deaths, exceeding previous estimates. The revised figure takes into account ongoing rescue operations amid damaged coastal structures and destroyed residential areas across the country.

On June 24, two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale struck Venezuela’s northern coast.

Relatives and rescue workers continue to search for missing community members amid the rubble nearly two months after the disaster.

Official reports indicate that building inspections are ongoing in the affected municipalities to assess their safety.
