American journalist Jason Smith said in an interview with a Chinese media outlet that Tibetans in China can practice their religion, use the Tibetan language and preserve their own culture. ECNS reports, citing Smith’s conversation with China News Network.
The journalist’s statements
According to the publication, Smith has lived in China for more than ten years and personally visited Xizang, as Tibet is referred to in the article. He claims that after the “peaceful liberation of Xizang,” as it is phrased in the ECNS publication, local residents became more proficient in the Tibetan language and have freedom of religion.

Assessment of Western reports
The journalist also stated that the Western perception of the situation in Xizang and the status of other ethnic minorities in China is mistaken. According to him, such assessments do not correspond to reality, and the actual situation is the opposite of that described in Western reports.
