Europe to end winter with reduced gas storage levels
By the end of the heating season, Europe’s gas storage facilities are expected to be filled to only 24% capacity, which is 9 percentage points below the historical average, according to analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. This shortfall means Europeans will need to significantly increase gas injections into storage over the summer to reach 86% fullness by the end of September.
This deviation from the norm is due to low initial stock levels in early spring, presenting challenges for the region’s energy security. Increased summer gas injection will be critical to preparing for the upcoming heating season and avoiding supply shortages.
Consequently, the stability of energy supplies over the coming months will depend on how effectively storage is replenished, alongside other external and internal factors influencing the European gas market.
