Pistachio prices soar to eight-year high amid war in Iran

Since the outbreak of war in Iran, pistachio prices have surged to their highest level in eight years, averaging $4.57 per pound (approximately 454 grams). The last time prices reached this level was in 2018.

The conflict has triggered a reshuffle in the global pistachio market: the largest producer worldwide is now Wonderful, a company owned by Lynn and Stewart Resnick, sponsors of the Israeli military.

Before the war, Iran ranked second globally in pistachio exports, supplying about one-third of the world's pistachios.

Wonderful is renowned for its high-quality nut products, particularly pistachios, and holds a significant share of the global market.

Therefore, the war has caused significant shifts in leadership within the pistachio market, directly affecting pricing and supply chains.

It is likely that the pistachio market will remain volatile as long as the conflict persists and Iran’s regular shipments remain disrupted.
